Thought of the day - Curiousness and Optimism and a Pinch of Dreams

Everyone or most people like to focus on the 'high road' to success or good design - focusing on processes and tools because they are familiar, they know how they 'feel' and use them.

But without the customer, user, and usage mindset for good, useful design - on all levels of touch, see, feel, and even smell - people will end up with the same internally focused solutions with the same awful CX they had and have.

Perhaps the two primary ingredients for progress are from my point of view curiousness and optimism and a pinch of dreams. And the unwavering belief that something can be discovered, to learn and to do better is what drives me forward.

We all / everyone are the fruits of educating, raising, schooling ... and or staying in our safe areas ... and we are the outcomes of our community and crowd - but who only follows the crowd, who avoid detours will usually get no further than the crowd. The one who walks detours, the one who is not afraid to follow paths and thoughts which make no sense at first or second glance is likely to find themselves in places no one or only few has ever been before.

I firmly believe that curiousness and optimism or call it dreaming is good and needed - especially as designer or creator of something.

  • Do you give yourself license to dream?
  • Do you imagine what you could, should be or something could, should be?
  • What you could achieve, who you could impact, who you could affect in terms of not only yourself, but maybe your family, maybe broader society, your team or club or even company?
  • Are you asking those questions of yourself regularly?

For myself it almost all about - how can we just begin problem-solving together and being thoughtful around the opportunity, challenges and future and go wide with certain capabilities to bring people in, in a multidisciplinary sense.

But also go deep once we identify the big nuggets of possibility or work that are required, and ensure that we're being very thoughtful in what might work and bring as forward.

Sure that means as well taking some shared risk and needs shared  responsibilities and accountabilities.

Breadth of market, people, and mind

  • action and process of selecting, organizing, and looking after trend
  • Scenarios are stories about how the future environment might unfold for our organizations, our issues, our nations, and even our world.
  • Harvesting inspirations directly from the people we’re designing for as we immerse yourself in their lives and come to deeply understand their needs.
  • Ideating what make sense or give as an idea or a new vision of what we learned or discovered out of it
  • Identifing opportunities for design, and prototype possible solutions.

Depth of market, people, and mind

  • ethnographic research - researching users, domain, audience(s), processes, goals and context(s) of use best in real-life and real-life environment.
  • business and industrial design, processes and service and product development

Mutability for market, people, and ideas

  • approach and ability to transform and adapt
  • shared risk, responsibility and accountability

That's what I firmly believe in. It's not about just pleasing any opportunity out there.

Good design and progress are based on curiousness and optimism and a pinch of dreams.

So let's dream and be optimistic.
